Children under 6 enter free of charge. Children age 6–12 are charged $18 each. Visitors above the age of 12 are charged standard adult rates.

Udawalawe is best known for its wild Asian elephants, but the park is home to much more. Its open grasslands, reservoirs and dry-zone forests support water buffalo, spotted deer, crocodiles, monkeys, leopards, jackals, peacocks and a remarkable variety of birdlife. Wildlife sightings vary naturally, and no particular species or sighting can be guaranteed.

Experience the park as dawn breaks. Morning drives offer cooler early hours and crisp air, allowing you to watch the dry-zone savanna wake up under soft early light.

Depart later in the day to capture rich golden light and cooler evening conditions as dusk approaches, ideal for dramatic landscapes and watching animals gather near water.

Flexible Schedule & Park Hours

Safaris can also be arranged at other times between 5:30 AM and 6:00 PM while the park is open. Morning and afternoon are our most popular options, but departure times can be adjusted to suit your travel plans. Wildlife sightings vary naturally throughout the day and cannot be guaranteed.

Our morning and afternoon half-day safaris are approximately 3 hours. Our full-day safari is approximately 6 hours, giving you more time to explore different areas of Udawalawe National Park.

Morning and afternoon are our recommended safari times and are the options most guests choose. Safaris can also be arranged at other times during park operating hours. Wildlife moves naturally throughout the day, so sightings can never be guaranteed.

Our private open-top safari jeeps can accommodate up to 6 passengers, allowing your group to explore Udawalawe together in your own vehicle.

No. Udawalawe National Park entrance tickets are separate from the safari jeep price and are purchased at the park entrance. Current foreign visitor entrance fees are shown above on this page.

Yes. Complimentary pickup and drop-off are included for hotels and guesthouses within the Udawalawe area. We collect you before your safari and return you to your accommodation afterwards.

Udawalawe is especially famous for wild Asian elephants. You may also encounter water buffalo, Leopard, spotted deer, crocodiles, monkeys, jackals, monitor lizards and many species of birds. All animals roam freely, so specific sightings cannot be guaranteed.
